  Carver: A Life In Poems 6-12 N/A Carver was an American inventor and educator; he was first born a slave in Diamond, Missouri, in about 1864. He lived with many struggles growing up while being raised by a white couple who owned his mother. Carver’s life as a slave is described in poems written by those who once knew him during his lifetime, such as his friends and family all in one book.
  Romeo and Juliet 6-12 N/A Juliet sees her beloved Romeo and realizes he has killed himself with poison. She kisses his poisoned lips, and when that does not kill her, buries his dagger in her chest, falling dead upon his body. 
  Romeo and Juliet 6-12 N/A A tradition of tragic romances stretching back to antiquity. The story is about two young star-crossed lovers whose deaths ultimately reconcile their feuding families. 
  The Diary of a Young Girl  6-12 Y Also known as The Diary of Anne Frank, is a book of the writings from the Dutch language diary kept by Anne Frank while she was in hiding for two years with her family during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. The family was apprehended in 1944, and Anne Frank died of typhus in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in 1945. 
  Hatchet 6-12 R Brian Robeson is a 13 old son of divorced parents. As he travels from Hampton, New York on a Cessna bush plane to visit his father in the oil fields in Northern Canada for the summer, the pilot suffers a massive heart attack and dies. Brian tries to land the plane, but ends up crash-landing into a lake in the forest. He must learn to survive on his own with nothing but his hatchet
  The Call of the Wild 6-12 Y The story is set in Yukon, Canada during the 1890s Klondike Gold Rush, when strong sled dogs were in high demand. The central character of the novel is a dog named Buck.
  Ender’s Game 6-12 Z Andrew “Ender” Wiggin is drafted to the orbiting Battle School for rigorous military training. 
  The Time Machine  6-12 Z An English scientist and gentleman inventor living in Victorian England and identified simply as the Time Traveler. The narrator recounts the Traveler’s lecture to his weekly dinner guests that time is simply a fourth dimension. He reveals that he has built a machine capable of carrying a person through time and returns at dinner the following week to recount a remarkable tale, becoming the new narrator.
